History
This Ventura was featured in a 4-part series (17-pages) of POCI-Smoke Signals Magazine articles in 11/93 (on cover), 12/94,12/95 and 10/99. For a copy of this series, send $2.00 to the address below. Originally a nice “survivor” 2-bbl/Hydra-matic transmission car, the articles detail the history of 1960 Pontiacs, this Ventura in particular and its conversion into a factory component Tri-Power, 4-speed, 8-lug wheel driver. 1960 was the first year Pontiac offered the T-10 transmission and according to their records, only 722 were built, all at the Pontiac, MI plant. Except for a ’63 Pontiac tachometer and era racing “Lakes Pipes”, this Ventura is exactly as it might have come off the assembly line in 1960.

As a result of this car and other owners doing restorations to their shark-nosed ’60 Pontiacs, a group was formed in 1994 called the Sixty Owners Society to share information and enthusiasm. The 1960 Pontiac International Registry was also created that has documented and decoded over 350 vehicles to date. Pontiac Division approved the group in 1996 and a historical/information newsletter (totaling over 200 pages) called “Shark Bites” was published until 2001. Past newsletters, vehicle decoding and 1960 Pontiac items are available.
